Interchangeable Holiday Wreath

This was my first attempt at a yarn wreath. When I started, I was planning to make a simple Valentine wreath and quickly started thinking it would be neat to make a wreath for every holiday. But as I wrapped this thing in yarn......and wrapped....and wrapped, I realized there was no freakin' way I was going to make a ton of these things! Holy tedious!!

When I was FINALLY done wrapping it in yarn, I cut out some heart shapes with my Big Shot machine. Of course you can always just cut out your own hearts! Then I used a hole punch to put 2 holes in each heart to thread the yarn through. Who knew a hole punch would go through felt?! Awesome!

Then I wove 2 pieces of yarn through the holes-this part was frustrating only because I didn't have a big enough needle so I had to push them through myself. I adjusted the hearts on the yarn and then cut the ends leaving about 6 or 7 inches of extra yarn on each side.

Then I put the heart banner on top of the wreath the way I wanted it to go, grabbed each end of the strings, pulled them to the back and tied it in a bow.

Once flipped back over, this is what it looks like!

So why did I tie it in the back, you ask? Well, what happens when I want a different look or want to decorate for another holiday or season? I most certainly am not spending another hour wrapping a wreath in yarn!! Nope, I'm just going to untie the banner, make another season appropriate banner and tie it on! Brand new look!

A very quick project! If you don't count the yarn wrapping part! :) And it literally took me about 10-15 minutes to make a second banner!

I made 2 of these to go in my dining room so I'll be sharing that pic soon! Hope you enjoy this project!

  3. Love this idea!! The colors on the banner are great!! It does take FOREVER to wrap a wreath with yarn, but the result is worth it!!
